Silla del Moro (The Moor’s Chair)
Legend has it that the Silla del Moro (The Moor's Chair) was the retreat of the last Arab king of Granada
The Moor''s Chair, also known as the Castle of Santa Helena, is an old fort that dates back to the Nasrid era, when it formed a part of the military defences of the Generalife. Various galleries can be found beneath the castle, although the purpose they served remains unknown.
Until the restoration work began in the 20th century, the monument was in a very dilapidated state, largely due to destruction occasioned during the Reconquest and the various uses to which it was put during the Christian era.
The climb to The Moor''s Chair is unquestionably worth the effort, as it affords one of the most magnificent views of the Alhambra and the city of Granada.
