The Museum of the Alhambra, located on the ground floor of the Palace of Charles V, houses an interesting collection of artistic pieces dating back to the Moorish period, found in the grounds of the Alhambra and the Generalife.

The pieces, which illustrate both art and daily life under Moorish rule in Granada, are organised according to subject-matter in the first exhibition hall, and chronologically in the remaining seven exhibition halls. Every month, the museum elects a piece of the month, in order to ensure that people become better acquainted with its entire collection.

The most important piece is the Vase of the Gazelles, which dates back to the Nasrid era (14th century), considered as an artistic masterpiece of Islamic Spain. Attention should be drawn to the zoomorphic representations that give it its name, a rare depiction of animals that was generally prohibited within Islamic art.
