La Vega de Granada

acequia.jpg

La Vega de Granada is the farming and cattle area that has traditionally produced an abundant supply of foods. It is an area of great natural and ethnographic interest, as it is composed of vegetable gardens, fancy houses, marshes, an irrigation ditch called ''Acequia Gorda del Genil'' and tobacco drying places.

In the 19th century, the sugar beet crop made the economy of Granada grow exponentially, replacing tobacco —which was in decline during the mid-20th century.
