Sacromonte-Jesús del Valle

The Sacromonte is the quarter of the caves. It is located in the valley of Valparaiso, where the River Darro goes through. This was originally the suburb where Arab people lived.

However, after the War of Granada, it was also populated with gypsies. Therefore, due to this mix between the Arab, Christian and gypsy cultures, flamenco was born and so did ''zambra'' —which is a very typical and famous flamenco style from this area.

In 17^th century the Sacromonte Abbey was built, after the discovery of the Lead Books of Sacromonte and San Cecilio legend.

At the end of Camino de Beas, you will find the ruins of Jesús del Valle''s country state, which was built by the Jesuits also in the 17^th century.

This route was the primitive path to Guadix.
