The complex was constructed at the behest of the Almohad ruler of Granada, Sayyid Ishad ben Yusuf. Located one kilometre away from the Moorish city, it was employed as an estate for recreational activities or buhayra, and consists of a system of vegetable gardens, decorative gardens and pavilions surrounding a large central pond.

This pavilion, formed by a square central module, or qubba, and two lateral bedrooms, is all that remains of the complex. It was also known as the Garden of the Queen, as it belonged to Aisha, mother of King Boabdil. Included amongst the properties sold to the Catholic Monarchs, it soon passed to the Duke of Gor. At the hands of his heirs it underwent drastic modifications, amongst which attention should be drawn to the incorporation of two historicist side modules and the entrance shrine.

The route taken by the Camino de Ronda, which passed through its vegetable garden, and the destruction of the pond, completely changed its appearance. It was restored in 1994.
