Holy Wednesday

The ascent of the Cristo de los Gitanos (Christ of the Roma) is a unique moment in Granada's Holy Week processions.

Holy Wednesday in Granada is spectacular; a unique, electrifying evening in a palette of purples, reds and gold. The procession is made up by two pasos, or floats: the Cristo del Consuelo (Christ of the Consolation), a splendid statue by José Ruiseño; and María Santísima del Sacromonte (Holy Mary of Sacromonte).

In the hills of Sacromonte, large bonfires are lit between the caves, dwellings and houses where the gitanos (Roma) live and performzambras, dances full of the fire, passion and art known as duende.
