Granada's New Mosque
The new mosque is the spiritual centre of Granada's Muslim community
Inaugurated in 2003, the main mosque of Granada is the first Islamic place of worship to be constructed in the city following the Christian conquest of 1492. Since it opened, it has become the focus of religious and cultural life of the Islamic community in Granada.
It consists of the mosque itself, the centre of Arabic studies and a beautiful garden providing magnificent views of the Alhambra, the valley of the River Darro, and the Albaicín district. It stands next to the viewpoint known as the Mirador de San Nicolás , a tranquil area that should form a part of any itinerary.
