Christmas in Granada

 

Every year, Christmas festoons Granada with lights and excitement.

The traditional Christmas lighting ceremony ushers in the cold winter that the people of Granada compensate by taking to the streets to enjoy the season's festive ambience .

Come and enjoy this very special season in Granada.

Wander among the pretty little stalls at the Christmas market in Bib-Rambla. Share the Christmas spirit with your children as you gaze at all the Nativity scenes dotted around the city or watch the traditional Cabalgata de Reyes (Three Wise Men parade). Savour the delicious convent sweets and pastries made by Granada's nuns and, of course, enjoy a special New Year's Eve dinner in a wonderful restaurant. Carry on partying until dawn in some of the city's most exclusive venues for New Year's Eve revelry.

The Christmas lighting will probably be switched on Friday 2nd  December after 7.00 pm.


Hours: from 18.30 to 00.00. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until 02.00. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve until 05.00.

Passes of the light show in Plaza del Carmen: 19.30 and 21.30.

 

The Christmas market, located in Fuente de las Batallas (handicratf) and Plaza de Bibrambla (nativity scenes) is held from 1st December to 6th January.


The schedule will be from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm to 9.30 pm.


They could be closed on 24th and 31st December in the afternoon and on 25th and 1st January during all day.


Visit the navity scenes (belenes).


Granada families visit the navity scenes that participate in the contest organized by the City Council of Granada.


They can be visited from 17th December.


As every year the nativity scene of the City Hall will be open until 4th January.


Children from Granada give their letter for the Three Wise Men to the Royal Postman in the courtyard of the City Hall. Don't forget yours.

Christmas Eve

 

The Tardebuena is the afternoon of 24th December and is typical from Granada. It lasts until eight o'clock, when the Granadinos start to celebrate the Christmas dinner.

 

Few restaurants open on the most family night of the year.

 

Flamenco.

 

We recommend attending the traditional Midnight Mass in the Cathedral of Granada.

New Year's Eve in Granada

 

There are different options to celebrate the last night of the year.

 

From party dinners, dinners in restaurants or go to differents bars in the lively centre.

 

In Plaza del Carmen you can eat the famous twelve grapes. 3,000 dozens of grapes are distributed from 11.30 pm. There will be street parties and fireworks to welcome the New Year.

Day of the Granada Capture (2nd January)

 

It celebrates the delivery of the keys of the city to the Catholic Monarchs by Boabdil, the last Nasrid king of Granada, in 1492.

 

In the morning there is a civic parade between the City Hall and the Royal Chapel.

 

Three Wise Men Parade (5th January)

 

One of the most unique Spanish traditions.

 

The parade runs through the city centre.

 

On that night, it is important to leave the shoes clean, a few glasses of anise for the Three Wise Men and water for the camels.

 

Three Wise Men Day (6th January)

 

The children get up full of emotion to see what the Three Wise Men have brought them.

 

They can receive coal if they haven't behaved well during the year.
